Zac Miller is from Philadelphia, PA. He came to Shapell’s in 2012. Zac has a Bachelor’s in Business Marketing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
He shared: “I have never been, and probably never will be, in such a diverse environment, yet everyone, student and rabbis alike, are all united by a common goal: the desire to deeply understand the Torah.”

Joshua Freedman is from London, England. He came to Shapell’s in 2013. Joshua has a Bachelor’s in Linguistics and German from Oxford University.
He shared: “I came to Shapells to improve my learning skills and get a better understanding of how a page of Gemara works. The yeshiva’s disciplined and methodical approach to texts is superb. I was particularly struck by how diverse the student body is.”

Simcha Brick is from St. Louis, MO. He came to Shapell’s in 2013. Simcha has a Bachelor’s in Creative Writing from Binghamton University (SUNY).
He shared: “I was worried I would come to Shapell’s and find the place full of people all in white shirts and black hats, and I’d be the only one with lingering questions about Judaism and my identity. Totally not the case! The students come from all different levels of experience and learning, and the rabbis are open and ready for any style of questioning.”

Mattias Amster is from Stockholm, Sweden. He came to Shapell’s in 2011. Mattias has a Bachelor’s in Information Technology and Marketing from the University of Stockholm and a degree in Performance Music (drumming) from RML/Birkagarden College and Fryshuset, Stockholm.
He shared: “I chose Shapell’s because I wanted a place that was intellectual and where I could learn how to learn. My rabbi said that Shapell’s was famous for its learning and for enabling students to continue after Shapell’s – a place where if you push yourself really hard, you could make up what you lacked as younger man.”

Matt LeVee is from Chicago, IL. He came to Shapell’s in 2011. Matt has a Bachelor’s in Philosophy and Sociology from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
He shared: “Growing up steeped in Jewish culture, I felt there was more to our traditions then I had been exposed to. Shapell’s gave me an environment to carefully reexamine Judaism and work on growing myself into a better person. Through the insightful and caring community that Shapell’s fosters and creates, I have developed a passion in Torah learning.”

Jonathan Ravanshenas came to Shapell’s in 2013. He has a Bachelor’s in Psychology and Child Development from UCLA. Master’s in Teaching, MBA, and Doctorate in Education, University of Southern California (USC).
“My wife and I decided that we wanted to spend our first year of marriage together in an environment that would help strengthen our relationship and the Jewish foundations that would enable us to build a faithful home in Israel. Shapell’s and Midreshet Rachel’s married couples program has provided us with the necessary tools to foster a healthy marriage and raise our family in a Torah observant way.”
