Prospective students can complete this pre-application at any time and can expect timely communication from our staff to discuss the program with you.
Eligibility and Prerequisites
- Shapell’s and Midreshet Rachel are open to both single and married participants.
- We are open to adult students of all ages, though most students are 20-35.
- We have opportunities for part and full-time students in our regular program. We also offer a separate 1:1 Executive Learning Program.
- With few exceptions, candidates have an academic or professional degree, or the equivalent life experience.
- Our core program accepts Jewish students who have made at least a basic commitment to traditional observance.
- A rudimentary ability to read (although not necessarily understand) Hebrew is a prerequisite

Tuition
We do everything possible to make sure that financial need is not a barrier to studying with us. Our Executive Director works out a customized tuition plan for every accepted student depending on the length of studies and financial need.

What scholarships are available?
- MASA, in partnership with the Israeli government and the Jewish Agency gives young Jews in the Diaspora the opportunity to spend a semester or a full year in Israel through financial assistance. - Only MASA applications submitted before our official MASA start dates will be eligible for funding.
- Jeff Seidel Flight Scholarships – When available, the scholarship assists eligible students in coming to Israel to further explore their Jewish heritage. The scholarship is $400 towards airfare. To apply click here.
- Note that assistance may also be available from a student’s synagogue, JCC or Hillel. Scholarships are also often available from local Jewish Federations. Each Federation has its own criteria and application process for scholarships.
- Additionally, students may apply to Shapell’s/Darché Noam for financial aid. Assistance is available in the form of generous scholarships and work-study. A variety of scholarships, payment plans, work/study, and moral commitments are available. Financial assistance packages are determined on a case-by-case basis.
